Baby Bag

A colleague ordered a baby bag to give to her friend who is expecting her second baby. The bag was not to be gender-specific so I chose yellow, although that is not a favourite colour of mine.

The outer fabric is polycotton drill and the inner lining is polycotton with a farmyard theme. There are plenty of internal pockets as well as a zippered pouch on a snap hook. There is a large outer pocket on the back of the bag and the strap is adjustable. I hope it will be useful and fit for purpose.

My Easter/Spring Swap parcel

My parcel from Hannah/Cupcake Mumma arrived this morning and certainly brightened up a rather dull Spring Equinox here in East Yorkshire! Thank you so much, Hannah. I love all the goodies that you sent! Here they are:

Everything was wrapped in a piece of soft fluffy fabric: I love sunflowers and will plant the seeds when the danger of snow and frost has gone; the mini eggs and chocolates will go down very well indded; the pen will go into my handbag; the two hearts will be in my workroom, as will the little fairy; the needles will come in very handy - I never seem to have the one I want to use. So, a bg THANK YOU to Hannah and to Joy for organising the swap. Now all we need is some Spring weather!

Easter/Spring swap

My swap partner, Hannah of Cupcake Mumma, has received her parcel so I can post photos of the contents now.

The instructions were to put the items in a margarine or ice-cream tub and wrap it in a piece of fabric. Hannah told me that she doesn't do much sewing so I thought I would rather put the tub in a drawstring gift bag. She also told me that she likes pinks and, of course, cupcakes!

The tub contained the following:

A mug rug and four coasters made with cupcake fabric;

a shopping tote and zip-up make-up bag or bag for little odds and ends;

and four chocolate bunnies and two fluffy chicks to fit in with the Easter/Spring theme. The shopping tote can be rolled up and popped into your handbag so that it is ready for unexpected items you might just be tempted to buy!

It was fun putting the swap together so 'thank you' to Joy for organising it!

Another bag for a grandchild.

On searching through my stash recently, I found two engine pictures from some Thomas the Tank Engine fabric I bought a few years ago. I decided to use the pictures to make another drawstring bag for my younger grandson, Alex, who is a great Thomas fan. I'm sure he will find some of his Thomas collection to store in the bag. I do feel good when I visit the family in Durban and see all the drawstring bags I've made them hanging on hooks filled with all sorts of toys and collections. Here is the latest bag:

The two sides are the same. I ironed some fusible interfacing on the back of the two pictures and then zizagged them onto the outer bag fabric. The bag is lined and I made the drawstrings from the lining fabric.

I have posted off my Easter Swap to Hannah/Cupcake Mamma, my partner, and will post photos of what I have sent her once she has received the package.

Home again

I arrived home on Friday after a rather long trek: Bahrain Airport to Abu Dhabi; Abu Dhabi to Manchester; Manchester by train to Hull; met by my husband and went to Tesco before getting home about 18 hours later. I slept a little on the plane but felt shattered; managed to sleep OK and felt better on Saturday morning. Worked on Saturday night and will do so again tonight then a few days off till next weekend.

After my little sleep on the plane, I watched a film called '33 Postcards'. It made be cry - a bit embarrassing on a plane!

Now I am itching to get sewing again. I received a beautiful big sewing storage box from a colleague for my birthday and am looking forward to doing a bit of organising. I also have an Easter swap to do, so I will be kept busy on my days off.

Sadly, I didn't get to visit any fabric shops in Bahrain as my daughter-in-law wasn't well for my last three days so I was fulfilling 'mother', 'grandma' and 'carer' rolls. I was glad to be there when I was needed. I'll post some photos when I'm not so tired and am more organised.
